Why I chose Terre Haute over bigger cities

Just moved here 2 months ago and Rent is about $877/month for a decent place. With a population of 58,491, Terre Haute is a smaller city. Median household income is $41,960, which feels on the lower side for the area. Poverty rate is 18.6%, which is higher than I expected. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Low taxes
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Limited dining options
- Boring for young people
- Far from major airports
Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is excellent in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The food scene is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..
