Hi all, I'm a remote worker and Crime rate is something to consider -Terrell sits at 239.2 per 100K. Poverty rate is 14.4%, which is around average. With a population of 19,019, Terrell is a small town. The median home value here is around $190,000, which is actually reasonable. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Portland about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is decent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in The Heights for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- The weather scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
