First time home buyer in Terrytown

I grew up here but left for a while. The median home value here is around $212,000, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 5.0%, which is about average. With a population of 25,844, Terrytown is a smaller city. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to. Should I be concerned? Appreciate any input. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to San Diego it's excellent.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is challenging in most areas.
