Hey folks, I'm originally from Los Angeles and Homes are going for about $190,600 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely underrated and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (East) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but it's exactly what I was looking for. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in The Heights for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The safety scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to LA it's solid.
