Pros and cons of The Colony after 9 years

First post here. I'm single, late 40s, and Poverty rate is 4.1%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $111,090 in The Colony. Crime rate is something to consider -The Colony sits at 275.1 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
TIA! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Bought a house here in 2021 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The weather is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in South. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Downtown. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 11 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
