Best companies to work for in The Dalles?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Median household income is $62,830, which feels about average for the area. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The walkability is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in East. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The outdoor recreation scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 14 years. Moved from Chicago for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
legal is strong here. manufacturing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited shopping options. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely excellent and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
