Day-to-day life in The Dalles, OR

Anyone else feel this way? Median household income is $62,830, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 4.4%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -The Dalles sits at 177.8 per 100K. Household incomes average around $62,830 in The Dalles. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. TIA! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Seattle about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is tough.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 7 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
