The Dalles housing prices -when will it stop?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -The Dalles sits at 177.8 per 100K. Household incomes average around $62,830 in The Dalles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low taxes
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Not very walkable
- Lack of diversity
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
Does this match your experience? The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Nashville about 7 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Hope this helps!.
