Working remotely from The Pinery

Random thought, I'm a 26-year-old real estate agent and With a population of 11,740, The Pinery is a small town. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -The Pinery sits at 129.5 per 100K. The median home value here is around $709,800, which is pretty steep. Median household income is $173,889, which feels pretty solid for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. What do you all think? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Dallas about 3 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Hope this helps!.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 5 years. Moved from Minneapolis for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Dating scene is rough. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Lakewood area are tough. Kids love it here.

I've been in Westside for 15 years. Moved from Miami for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited shopping options. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 7/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is tough in most areas.

Used to live on the Fairview side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 7 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
