Poverty rate is 14.3%, which is around average. Median household income is $48,464, which feels on the lower side for the area. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
