OK so I'm single, late 20s, and Rent is about $853/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Anyone in a similar situation? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (East) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in South for 3 years. Moved from San Diego for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Urban sprawl is real. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in construction. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
