First post here. I've been here for 14 years and The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $135,500, which is actually reasonable. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 12 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The walkability scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is improving in most areas.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
