Thomson is underrated, change my mind

So, I'm a remote worker and Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What neighborhoods would you suggest?

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 53, moved here 7 years ago from Miami. I've lived in East and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The walkability situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much affordable but now it's better than expected.

I've lived in Sunset for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- The housing market scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Boston it's tough.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. Feel free to reach out with questions..
