Pros and cons of Thornton after 4 years

I'm originally from Nashville and Median household income is $100,985, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $482,200, which is pretty steep. You can expect to pay around $1,810 for rent here. It's a a mid-size city city with about 143K people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Good schools
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Rising rent prices
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Am I overthinking this? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- The nightlife scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much pricey but now it's better than expected.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..
