Moving from Charlotte to Thousand Palms next month

You can expect to pay around $1,432 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 4 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for weather and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community vibe is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is housing market. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 42, moved here 2 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in South and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Diverse dining options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Property taxes are high
3. The housing market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely tough and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
