Been meaning to ask this. Rent is about $3,501/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Looking forward to hearing from you all. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Springfield) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The safety is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The nightlife scene is solid
The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..
