What surprised you most about Tigard?

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 52-year-old writer and It's a a smaller city city with about 55,395 people. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Is this normal for Tigard? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Portland about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:

- Good schools in most areas

- Decent public transit for the size

- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:

- Road conditions need improvement

- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
