Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cost of living is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 14 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Pine Hills area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 11 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 35, moved here 15 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in West and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The healthcare situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for singles. improving vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much growing but now it's pretty good.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The outdoor recreation scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- The public transit scene is average
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
