Day-to-day life in Tinley Park, IL

Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. Poverty rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,518/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $103,819 in Tinley Park. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 53, moved here 5 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Eastside and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The safety situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for remote workers. solid vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for weather and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is average in most areas.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Cedar Grove area are tough. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I love the pace of life here. The traffic is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Raleigh it's pretty good.
