Hey, I've been here for 11 years and Homes are going for about $289,000 on average. Household incomes average around $103,819 in Tinley Park. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Am I overthinking this? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 1 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. the quality of life is solid. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been here 13 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a writer, 58, moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta. I've lived in Midtown and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Atlanta, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

I've lived in Midtown for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The walkability scene is improving
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from New York about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in construction here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is better than expected. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
