Moving to Tinley Park with kids -good idea?

Hi all, It's a a smaller city city with about 55,007 people. Rent is about $1,518/month for a decent place. Median household income is $103,819, which feels pretty solid for the area. You can expect to pay around $1,518 for rent here. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks! Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I'm a electrician and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is surprisingly good and there's always something going on.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 10 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Oak Park for 8 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 9/10. Hope this helps!. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
