Pros and cons of Tishomingo after 8 years

Hi all, Military spouse here. It's a a small town city with about 3,097 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. Any advice would be great. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 1 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The food scene scene is improving

The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 30, moved here 5 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in The Heights and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The walkability situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for young professionals. decent vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
