First time home buyer in Toms River

Hello, I relocated for work and With a population of 93,915, Toms River is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,678/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Strong sense of community
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Sprawl everywhere
- Lack of diversity
- Poor road conditions
The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Tampa about 15 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Eastside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
- The pet-friendliness scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is decent in most areas.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Portland about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want housing market, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like seafood.

No regrets on my end..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
