Relocating to Tooele, UT -pros and cons?

Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Tooele sits at 204.4 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,166 for rent here. Household incomes average around $88,893 in Tooele. Median household income is $88,893, which feels pretty solid for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Any advice would be great. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Background: I'm a contractor, 51, moved here 13 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Riverside and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The dating scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for retirees. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's challenging for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.

education is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
