Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Poverty rate is 4.7%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $113,105 in Torrance. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in North area are challenging. Kids love it here.

I've lived in Sunset for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- The safety scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

Bought a house here in 2019 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Moved here from Tampa about 15 years ago. I have mixed feelings honestly. Still getting used to pet-friendliness but Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
