Cost of living reality check -Tower Lakes

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I grew up here but left for a while. Household incomes average around $172,656 in Tower Lakes. Rent is about $2,375/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $2,375 for rent here. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Friendly people
- Close to nature
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Lack of diversity
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 11 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The nightlife scene is average

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..
