I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The job market is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a real estate agent, 57, moved here 8 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Maple Ridge and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The school system situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Raleigh it's challenging.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The weather is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The dating scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Old Town. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
