First post here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The housing market is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Springfield for 12 years. Moved from Miami for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is improving - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Can feel isolated. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Uptown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Asian.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's not perfect but it works for me.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..
