Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in education and Crime rate is something to consider -Tropical Park sits at 1,810.4 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 2,567 people. Poverty rate is 51.6%, which is higher than I expected. The median home value here is around $226,700, which is actually reasonable. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Is this normal for Tropical Park?

Came here for retirement and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The cost of living is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely average and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (West) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Tampa about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
