Hello, With a population of 17,733, Troy is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Troy sits at 659.8 per 100K. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

The food scene here is surprisingly good. Tons of great Italian places. it's been a really good experience overall.

I've lived in Midtown for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The weather scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 13 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 3 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 42, moved here 12 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The job market situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
