Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Any help is appreciated.

I work in retail here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is pretty good. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the Springfield side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 50, moved here 8 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The dating scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mexican places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from New York about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2022 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

I've lived in Midtown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- The food scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..

- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Westside. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The cost of living is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..
