Anyone regret moving to Troy?

Hello, Just moved here 11 months ago and The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Would love some local perspective. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 14 years. Moved from Pittsburgh for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited high-paying job options. Can feel isolated. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 5/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is improving in most areas.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much growing but now it's better than expected.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely improving and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Downtown) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if pet-friendliness matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 4 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Greenfield. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.
