Random thought, My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $119,299, which feels pretty solid for the area. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Troy sits at 79.1 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Should I be concerned? Thanks! There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Nashville about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are growing, gas is tough.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've lived in Uptown for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- The weather scene is solid
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
