Is Troy walkable?

Curious what people think. Military spouse here. What do you all think? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 6 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Minneapolis about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Lots of new development happening

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a social worker and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is better than expected and there's always something going on.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Atlanta it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Dallas about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is improving.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Meadowbrook. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Definitely worth checking out..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want walkability, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 37, moved here 13 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Oak Park and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The housing market situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for remote workers. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely improving and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Midtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
