Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What do you all think? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

retail is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is average - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Homeless population growing downtown. Far from beaches/mountains. And nightlife can be frustrating.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (West) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Greenfield. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Definitely worth checking out..
