Rent in Troy getting crazy

Hey folks, It's a a smaller city city with about 87,307 people. Household incomes average around $119,299 in Troy. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $396,800, which seems about average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Good job market
- Nice parks and trails
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Not very walkable
- Poor road conditions
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homelessness issues downtown
Any advice would be great. Any help is appreciated. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Came here for school and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Eastside for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- The traffic scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
