It's a a smaller city city with about 87,307 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Troy sits at 79.1 per 100K. Household incomes average around $119,299 in Troy. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What would you do? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much developing but now it's better than expected.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 3 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Westside for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
