Hello, My partner and I are The median home value here is around $212,100, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 6.3%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Came here for school and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The housing market is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The food scene is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 25, moved here 15 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Midtown and Old Town, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The cultural scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Old Town: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in hospitality here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is decent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 10 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
