Best areas to explore in Troy?

Hey folks, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Household incomes average around $57,688 in Troy. With a population of 51,054, Troy is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,134/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $192,500 on average. The unemployment rate is 5.7%, which is about average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Am I overthinking this? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The nightlife is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Eastside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for family and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The healthcare is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 42, moved here 2 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Road conditions need improvement
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The weather situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Uptown area are decent. Kids love it here.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Weather-wise, the summers are tough and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Denver about 2 years ago. The main reasons were work and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Winters are long and cold

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Miami about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is average.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely underrated and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Sunset) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
