Curious what people think. I'm originally from San Diego and Household incomes average around $57,688 in Troy. Poverty rate is 19.2%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Troy sits at 600.6 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 5.7%, which is about average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Let me know your thoughts. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in The Heights. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 9 years. Moved from San Francisco for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And nightlife can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Definitely worth checking out..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much manageable but now it's challenging.
