Is Truckee still affordable?

Hey everyone, I'm a remote worker and Household incomes average around $125,995 in Truckee. The median home value here is around $884,000, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What would you do? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are pretty good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in marketing here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is average. Happy to answer more specific questions..
