Trumansburg is underrated, change my mind

Longtime lurker here, Been living here since 2015. Crime rate is something to consider -Trumansburg sits at 144.1 per 100K. The median home value here is around $271,300, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 48--F, so expect cold winters. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 1,552 people. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Not enough green space
Should I be concerned? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Portland about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is tough.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Used to live on the The Heights side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much affordable but now it's decent.
