Honest thoughts on life in Tryon

Hey everyone, I'm originally from San Francisco and It's a a small town city with about 1,713 people. You can expect to pay around $1,231 for rent here. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Has anyone dealt with this? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Westside. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
