I'm a 30-year-old restaurant manager and Rent is about $1,479/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 56--F, so the weather is moderate. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Worth the trade-offs? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely underrated and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 1 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..
