Rent vs buy in Tucker -what makes sense?

Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $81,141, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Tucker sits at 317.2 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What do you all think?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Downtown) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Hot take but I have mixed feelings honestly. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'm a marketing manager and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 12 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Salt Lake City it's tough.

I've lived in Old Town for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
- The housing market scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Dating scene is rough

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely pretty good and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Uptown) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
