How is Tulare for outdoor activities?

OK so I've been here for 3 years and Crime rate is something to consider -Tulare sits at 400.7 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Any advice would be great. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a accountant who relocated here from Chicago about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is tough.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..
