Curious what people think. I'm originally from Atlanta and Crime rate is something to consider -Tulare sits at 400.7 per 100K. With a population of 69,984, Tulare is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $301,200 on average. Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. I've lived in Westside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good airport with direct flights
- The community vibe scene is solid
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 31, moved here 8 years ago from Baltimore. I've lived in Meadowbrook and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The weather situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Baltimore, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
