Hey everyone, We're a young couple and Crime rate is something to consider -Tunkhannock sits at 55.8 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. Anyone in a similar situation? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in legal. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I work in government here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is tough. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Midtown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Close to major attractions
- The pet-friendliness scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The safety is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..
