Thinking about relocating to Twentynine Palms from Dallas

Hey everyone, Rent is about $1,271/month for a decent place. Median household income is $56,000, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $238,400, which is actually reasonable. Homes are going for about $238,400 on average. Poverty rate is 11.7%, which is around average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What are your go-to spots? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Boston about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is tough.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The cost of living is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The housing market scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 12 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The dating scene is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 45, moved here 14 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Lakewood and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for couples. improving vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
