Curious what people think. We have two kids and Crime rate is something to consider -Twentynine Palms sits at 440.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,271/month for a decent place. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Thanks for reading. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Baltimore about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Portland about 13 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Raleigh about 6 years ago. The main reasons were family and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is improving.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for work and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The healthcare is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
